I lead research in AI and machine learning applied to a variety of topics
- including computer vision, bioinformatics, cybersecurity, renewable energy, and ecology, supported by multidisciplinary and international collaborations. I have made an internationally recognised, substantive, innovative, and original contribution to my field that includes the development of the world’s first experimental 3D television studio – IEE Reeve Premium award in 2004, the first stochastic context free grammar-based framework able to handle the complexity of the protein alphabet, a novel embedding-based dimensionality reduction method able to model any concept represented by multivariate sequences, the pioneer usage of common sense reasoning for computer vision-based human action recognition, the introduction of a genomics-inspired paradigm (Vide-omics) for visual surveillance, usage of game theory for smart grids and PPE management during the COVID-19 outbreak, exploitation of AI for managing domestic solar energy solutions, and denoising mass spectrometry data, and air pollution monitoring and prediction.
