Research interests
I am an artist and PhD researcher at Kingston University (Techne/AHRC-funded), and former Somerset House Studios Resident Artist (2017–2023). Previously, I was Senior Lecturer in the School of Arts and Creative Industries and directed the BA (Hons) Photography programme at London South Bank University (2017–2024), and have taught art and photography in art schools since 2003. An award-winning artist, my work spans photography, sculpture, drawing, performance, and occasional public works, focusing on the crowd as object, process, and model of collectivity and transformation. My survey show, 'Crowd Theory: Simon Terrill', was held at the Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne (2019), and 'The Brutalist Playground', a collaboration with Assemble Studios, was commissioned by RIBA, touring internationally (2015–2025).
