Universities as Socio-technical Infrastructure for Community Translation

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Proof-of-concept building a socio-technical model where Translation Studies students mentor CALD community members acting as informal translators, while IT students build and maintain supporting digital infrastructure -- aiming to formalise community translation capacity via co-design with industry (Polaron, NAATI) and community (Australian Karen Organisation) partners, as a pilot toward future ARC Linkage/Horizon Europe funding.

Layman's description

Pairs university students with migrant community members who informally translate for others, building both people's skills and simple digital tools to support that work.
