Abstract

Drawing is a central part of Illustration Animation BA (Hons) (IABA) here at Kingston KSA. The role of drawing engages the student in how they experience the world with their senses and allows them to understand more of what they see and how they respond to it. Drawing is often used to support other outcomes be it digital design, product design, animation, demonstrating ideas and so on but it can be the actual outcome, the final product. In 2019 I organised a collaboration with contemporary drawing gallery: The Drawing Room in London and the Animation MA course at the RCA. The goal was to give the students (and us tutors) a broader understanding of where drawing may sit, how drawing might be used as a practice in and of itself; and how drawing might be investigated and developed through a project.
