Abstract

This paper reports the development, as a student project, of an inexpensive system for the evaluation of liquid crystal test samples. The test assembly is of dimensions 150*110*140 mm, and is interfaced to a personal computer through a system control box. The computer interacts with the user through a menu system, and regulates a number of features of the system such as automatic illumination calibration to avoid saturation. This system is able to provide information on activation voltages, response times and can produce polar plots of the transmitted intensity.
