Abstract

A colloquium hosted by Dr Jonathan Faiers, Professor of Fashion Thinking, Winchester School of Art, at Drapers' Hall, London. The colloquium examined the temporal nature of textiles and dress via the spatial and social interface between sites of origin, culture, history and geography, art, music, literature and film. An invited speaker: I presented a paper entitled 'Bill Gibb: Beyond The Seams', which unpicked the career, influence and inspirations of the 1970s designer Bill Gibb via his homeland Scotland, Japan, Africa, Egypt, Medievalism, Pre-Raphaelite art, David Bowie, Nostalgia and the Avant-garde.
