    Abstract

This article considers possible links between counselling and clinical reasoning. It focuses on the therapeutic relationship, explores narratives and enters the debate of 'being' vs 'doing' . Finally it examines the process of metacognition and recommends that health professionals like counsellors see supervision as the cornerstone of their practice. This, it argues, provides continual personal and professional development and is essential for the further development of clinical reasoning.
