Abstract
3 works exhibited as part of group show of Fine Art Professional Doctorate annual showcase of work in progress at University of East London
1. Mr. Puffy Faker - materials: vinyl tablecloths, canvas, canvas covered buttons
2. Manorist - materials: card, vinyl tablecloths
3. The Decorator - materials, card, acrylic and household paints, fabric, upholstery tacks, screenprint, vinyl table cloths
These works represent a selection of works developed through the year on Professional Doctorate, title "Reframing Decoration". The trompe l'oeil works were developed after the 'inside inside outside' residency at Eastbury Manor Barking (see Repository entry for this), an Elizabethan Manor house situated n a 20th C housing estate which still contains fragments of painted fresco; and with reference to Norman Bryson's work in "Looking at the Overlooked' on Roman wall painting and 'enframing'.
The works are made with cheap synthetic or household materials and form part of the enquiry into the revival of the decorative in contemporary art.
