    Abstract

To provide an exhaust gas cleaning filter device capable of efficiently capturing particulate matter in a gas while suppressing pressure loss, and an exhaust gas cleaning method using the filter. SOLUTION: The exhaust gas cleaning filter device is provided with a plurality of filters arranged along the flowing direction of exhaust gas. The filter device includes a wall-through type filter and a filter piece having an acicular matter or fiber formed on the wall face of the part of the filter piece brought into contact with the exhaust gas. The wall-through type filter has the function of filtering the particulate matter (PM) contained in the exhaust gas, and the filter piece having the acicular matter or fiber formed on the wall face has a function of capturing ultrafine particles primarily making Brownian motion. The exhaust gas cleaning method using the same is also disclosed.
