Experimental method for detecting cracked and misaligned shafts

    Abstract

Results of integrity tests, observations of excavated foundations, and failed static load tests have revealed defects in cast-in-place piles, on numerous occasions in many parts of the world. Therefore, concerned engineers and project clients may require, as part of their Quality Assurance Programme, that integrity testing be performed on random samples of piles installed at a project site. Some case studies of piles tested using low Strain Integrity (PIT- LST) tester [ASTM D5882-00: Standard Test Method For Low Strain Integrity Testing Of Piles] are presented. Stress wave results of PIT-LST from the PIT - LST are interpreted using the method proposed by Webster (2011).
