Abstract

This performance lecture explored the research question: how did Fellini use commedia and how can commedia be used to theatricalise Fellini? A scene from the scenario of the film Casanova (which was not finally used by Fellini) was acted out using masks; a scene from La Strada was pantomimed while the text was recited in Italian; a scene from 8› was played out with an actress taking the Claudia Cardinale role of Claudia and an actor in Scaramouche mask taking the Marcello Mastroianni role of Fellini's alter ego Guido Anselmi.
