    Abstract

In 2005 fashion designer Helmut Lang resigned from his role as Creative Director at his eponymous label to work as an artist. In 2010 Lang decided to donate his archive among 12 museums worldwide. The Fashion Museum Bath was one of those museums; and the Helmut Lang Archive at the museum now includes over 150 pieces, complete catwalk looks from the early years of the 21st century. Remaining pieces from his archive, which had been damaged in a warehouse fire, were incorporated into one his artworks, 'Make It Hard', 2011. In 2010 I curated an exhibition dedicated to Lang, featuring the designer's influential looks as presented in his catwalk shows in Paris. The exhibit included over thirty individual ensembles. It was popular with design students and fashion fans and even design teams from international fashion brands.
