HUB: making places for people and trains

    Research output: Book/ReportBookpeer-review

    Abstract

Network Rail owns over 2500 railway stations in Britain. This architecture and design book shows how rail transport operators in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries have designed prefabricated station buildings which can be made quickly and economically, to provide the best environment for travellers.

    Bibliographical note

Impact: Recognizing the poor quality of many of its smaller and medium-size railway stations, Network Rail collaborated with David Lawrence, The Royal Institute of British Architects and the Design Council to procure a new standard architectural design for future railway stations. This present book - 'HUB' was, alongside the project brief, the primary briefing document for the international competition which procured the new station design. 'HUB' and its associated research resources built on the work already undertaken by David Lawrence for Network Rail's 'LINK' footbridge design programme.
