Abstract
Introduction to groundbreaking book of experimental photographs by American-born photographer Roger Ballin, in collaboration with Marguerite Rossouw. The images are derived from ephemeral drawings by the artist on glass. The book is divided into seven chapters or 'acts', taking readers on a journey into the unconscious. The Introduction frames Ballen's practice in relation to this particular body of work and helps to contextualise the work critically and conceptually.
