Abstract

This Chapter provides and analysis of the activities of small firms in five different sectors and seven locations. It examines the extent to which it is relevant to talk about a 'local' economy in the sense of a coherent set of efconomic activities; the character of business relations; and trends in the increasing or decreasing importance of the 'local' in the UK.
