"our street / your street / my streetÔÇØ: site specific performance and the construction of collective urban identity within post conflict landscape of Northern Ireland

This paper draws from a longitudinal Choreo-ethnographic study taking place in the City of Derry; using choreographic site responsive workshops as social platforms to address conflicting spatial ideologies of the daily post conflict landscape. Examining the role of dance and choreography as a social apparatus and reflects how far interdisciplinary methods within reconciliation and Peace Studies research can allow specific modalities of embodied and somatic response to aid the revisionining and remapping of spatial ownership within socio-politically conflicted terrain. Reflecting upon specific task based activities in the urban terrain, this paper develops key strategies using socio-choreographic methodologies to explore agency, community and perceived and actual border lines with a range of participants. Presenting film and visual materials as well as extracts from the works generated this paper addresses performance is a site of possibility; a re-reading of spatial reality: generating through PaR a social embodied data as to how people are using public urban spaces in the post conflict urban landscape Avoiding totalising narratives of the potential agency of participation; this paper reflects upon the process of participation within a framework of neoliberal urbanism as an investigation of relationship between socially engaged performance and sense of increased civic agency within fractured communities.
