    Abstract

    Eleven international co-exhibitors participated at the Streetopolis exhibition. The exhibition focused on contemporary fine art, urban and documentary photographers responding to the theme of 'streets of the world'. The aim of the exhibition it was to expand on notions of what constitutes contemporary street photography and to offer an alternative range of practices that link street cultures back to the wider context of urban life.

    Impact: The exhibition took place in three cities and countries (London, UK, Barcelona, Spain and New York, USA) and attracted a total of 1000 viewers. The exhibition highlighted the effects of urbanism and migration, movement and democracy, and public space and its social role. It explored the benefits of public space and individual autonomy in terms of quality of life and democracy. Reviews of the exhibition have appeared in several online journals, or spawned critical commentary, and the openings were widely covered in local media, especially in Barcelona, Spain. The exhibition opened an important dialogue between European photographers and commentators and counterparts in the United States, therefore contributing to international artistic dialogue and debate on notions of what constitutes contemporary street photography and to offer an alternative range of practices that link street cultures back to the wider context of urban life.
