Abstract

Employee engagement has been “in vogue” for a while now, but is it sustainable in the current workplace context? Research suggests that sustaining employee engagement depends on ensuring employees have good levels of psychological wellbeing. It also suggests that line managers have a vital role to play in both engendering engagement and supporting wellbeing in those they manage. It is therefore important for HR to understand what managers need to do in order to create sustainable employee engagement — and to help managers in fulfilling this role.
