An introduction to the life, work and social context of the Brazilian Marxist sociologist Ruy Mauro Marini for an English-reading audience. This chapter initially appeared in Marini, The Dialectics of Dependency (Monthly Review, 2022), and was translated to Spanish by Patrick Kane for the current volume.
