Abstract
Using a scoping literature review and integer linear models, this paper presents a conceptual model for applying drone technology to logistics projects. The study outlines a concept for establishing an UAV Cargo Delivery Centre on the South Coast of England. This preliminary concept not only reveals the potential benefits but also emphasises the challenges of integrating UAV into multimodal cargo logistics. The performance of UAV is significantly influenced by a range of parameters. The integration of logistics and UAV has progressed to a stage where the development of a feasible UAV cargo delivery system is achievable. However, the market scope and demand for cargo delivery services are largely dependent on operations beyond visual line of sight. One of the key challenges is ensuring operational safety, security, and commercial feasibility. The simulation of a UAV Cargo Delivery Centre on the South Coast of England demonstrates the project's technical feasibility. Nevertheless, the project's complexity, involving multiple stakeholders, underscores the necessity for a comprehensive analysis of investment and operational costs. This thorough examination is vital for assessing the project's economic viability and ensuring its long-term sustainability.
