Abstract
The evolution of incidental sequences in a system is the combined result of stochastic and deterministic events, the former due to the failures of the components, the latter related to the physical behaviour of the system. The DYLAM-3 code for the reliability assessment of a system represents a powerful tool for integrating deterministic and failure events and it is essentially based on the systematic simulation of the physical process under study, both in nominal and in failed conditions. This paper describes the main features of the DYLAM-3 code with reference to a simple system already analyzed by other dynamic approaches. The same system is also studied with a time dependent fault tree approach in order to show some features of dynamic methods.
