    Bibliographical note

Impact: The chapter I contributed and the book I edited are the first new material on the subject of Munnings and the First World War since 1988. My chapter incorporates hitherto unpublished information derived from public and private archival sources in: the UK; USA and Canada.
The book also reporduces for the first time a number of WWI-era works By Munnings in the Canadian War Museum, Ottawa and in the Munnings Art Museum, Dedham, Essex.
The book, as a whole, proved highly popular with the British public; 2,500 copies were printed and the book had sold out by end of July 2019.
My chapter is the first and at 11,000 words, by far the longest in a book I edited which accompanied the exhibition 'Alfred Munnings: War Artist, 1918' which ran at the National Army Museum, London from 30 November 2018-3 March 2019. A slighlty amended version of the exhibition, 'Behind The Lines: Alfred Munnings War Artist, 1918' ran at the Munnings Art Museum, Dedham, Essex from 23 March-3 November 2019.
My chapter focuses on the work Munnings produced and his experiences as an official war artist for the Canadian War Memorials Fund c. January-June 1918 when he was first attached to the Canadian Cavalry Brigade at the front in France and then with the Canadian Forestry Corps in central France.
