Bibliographical note
Format: DVDDuration: 22 min.
Image/sound Type: film
Impact: This film was made by myself and three graduates from the MA film making course. In 2009 we formed a filmmaking collective: w.in.c (women's independent collective) films and each submitted a film to the Cine Pobre Non-Budget film festival in Gibara in Southern Cuba. One of our films was selected for the film festival so we traveled to Cuba together and made a film about the festival which is unique and famous for its emphasis on low/no budget filmmaking, which is part of our ethos on the MA film making at Kingston. The following year, The Road to Gibara was selected for the Cine Pobre film festival and shown to great acclaim. It remains a timely document of a largely underappreciated approach to filmmaking.
