Unsung heroes: using counter-story to increase belonging. Exploring the potential of posters to contribute to institutional habitus.

    Abstract

Posters have been used for hundreds of years by those in authority (from nations to large corporate organisations) to define and propagate cultural norms. Despite this, there is little evidence of their effectiveness in creating a sense of belonging. This presentation explores the possibilities of using posters as a means of providing counter-story to and thereby increasing a sense of belonging to an institution. The presenter will be showing a range of posters compiled, designed and exhibited from 2012 - 2018
