Abstract
The horrendous tragedy pivoted on the symbolic inequality of people being unheard, silenced and dismissed, with the most grievous and heinous material consequences. This article is a rapid response to the tragedy and is primarily intended to give local people's voices some space, briefly contextualised within the wider structural inequalities that scar our present historical moment.
